This project's focus is the glamorization of true crime in today’s society and the desensitization that results from it. As different modes of delivering information on heinous crimes were introduced, the consumption of this topic became more widespread and normalized as they breached the common platforms we use. Whether in the form of a podcast where these stories are retold, a documentary or show that goes in-depth into the scene of the crimes, or a video where someone narrates the crimes while simultaneously doing their makeup, it has become abundantly clear that interest in true crime has increased as the retelling of crimes is pushed. However, with this increase, there appears to be a level of desensitization that follows, with people showing more interest in serial killers and their methods, but feeling less revolted by the disturbing acts they hear about, with some even becoming comfortable enough hearing it to be able to fall asleep listening to it. While I watch this content occasionally, I've noticed the abundance of times and ways a story is retold for the entertainment of others and the decreasing reactivity of those who do it.  I wanted to capture this through my project, showcasing an almost bored and stoic expression to a more frightening situation that would garner a larger reaction. To achieve this, I wanted to create a dramatic scene that made use of dark colors and hard lighting to place a focus on the subject within each picture without any distracting elements.
